Better outcomes are possible when family, friends and carers are recognised and included in mental health care. This free online training supports health professionals to identify, engage and support a person’s network in safe, effective and collaborative ways.

Family, friends and carers play a critical role in supporting people experiencing mental health concerns or suicidal distress, yet they are often left out of routine care. Many health professionals report limited training and confidence in engaging family, friends and carers in safe and meaningful ways.

This training builds practical skills, confidence and knowledge to change that. It focuses on culturally responsive, strengths based approaches to including family, friends and carers in everyday practice across primary care, allied health and mental health settings.

Learn practical ways to:

  • recognise the varied roles of family, friends and carers
  • communicate clearly, safely and respectfully
  • navigate consent, confidentiality and information sharing
  • support carer stress, burnout and wellbeing
  • apply inclusive practice using real world scenarios.

The training is self-paced and takes approximately 60-90 minutes to complete.
